The luxury hotel used to be measured by the room, the view, the marble, the service, the name on the door.

Now, the room is only a part of the story.

Across Saudi Arabia, hotels are set to become destinations in their own right, bringing together the offering of food, wellness, entertainment, design and a night out whether staying on site or a visitor passing through.

The question is evolving from the age old ‘Where are you staying?’ to ‘What are you doing?’

The Hotel Becomes the Destination

The clearest signs are set to emerge across the country’s hospitality scene.

At Shura Island, resorts lead the charge, with restaurants, beach clubs, entertainment and a wellness offering as well as a golf course making it a destination to remain long after check-in and beyond the room.

Food is becoming one of the reasons for guests to check-in. From global specialties and chef’s concepts to Saudi flavors and regional dishes, hotels are offering a significantly more diverse range of dining, drinking and overnight stays. Fine dining, casual eateries and destination spots are taking on roles as experiences in their own right.

It’s less a hotel and more a collection of things you might want to do.

As more international hospitality names enter the Saudi market, the competition will not just be around bigger rooms or bolder lobbies, but also around building the place people want to be.

It’s less the restaurant, but rather the one everyone wants to talk about.

It’s less the pool but more the one where everyone wants to spend the afternoon.

It’s less the treatment, but more the one worth coming for.

It’s less the night but more the one everyone wants an invitation to.

Because it’s not just a beautiful place to stay.

It’s a reason to come.
